How long have you been a member of the Japan Society of Boston?
I am a fairly new member. I just joined last year, even though I have lived in Boston for about 20 years.
What drew you to JSB?
My good friend and a JSB board member, Mikio-san, sort of got me into it. I had never joined a local association like JSB before, but I figured perhaps it was my turn to show my support to the community of my heritage. So far, it's been nothing but positive for me.
How would you describe yourself and what you're passionate about?
I was born and raised on a small tropical island called Okinawa. I am a music producer and the owner of my music and live concert production company, soundtrec. I am most known in the media/interactive media music field - particularly in Anime and video games. My passion is discovering the unknown, which led me to travel all over the world (and music, of course.)
Do you have a favorite event or program that you have participated in with JSB?
The last gala was fantastic. I go out of town frequently due to my concert tour stuff, but I plan on attending more JSB events in the future.
What about JSB makes it special from other groups within the Boston area?
JSB's diversity and vision are the things I liked the most. It’s amazing to see so many people coming together to pay respect, share their passion, and support Japanese culture and the community.
What would you say to somebody who is considering joining JSB?
I'd say join JSB soon. Well, that's what I would tell myself if I could roll back time. Supporting your community can enrich your life and only lead to better things.
Shota Nakama and his Sonic Symphony Tour is coming to Boston in September!
