How long have you been a member of the Japan Society of Boston?

I have been a member for 4 years, since December 2020.

What drew you to JSB?

I have loved Japan for my entire life, and so naturally as I moved to Boston for college as a Japanese & Music major, I looked for as many opportunities as I could to connect with Japanese culture.

How would you describe yourself and what you're passionate about?

I am 100% a Japan enthusiast!  My studies at Boston University combine my love and experience with opera performance with my desire to learn as much as possible about the Japanese performing arts. Speaking of, my upcoming senior thesis project combines noh and opera into one grand performance that is free to the public if anyone is interested! (Details)

Do you have a favorite event or program that you have participated in with JSB?

Well, there have been some fantastic events JSB has produced over the years, but of course I have to choose Between the Lines!  Meeting every month to discuss classic literature with passionate, intelligent, and like-minded people is truly one of the greatest highlights of my work here!

What about JSB sets it apart from other groups within the Boston area?

I've always felt that no matter what, the Japan Society really cares about its members.  In our meetings, we are always discussing ways to engage the members with our activities, and focusing on receiving member feedback in order to improve our events and opportunities moving forward.  This focus on membership satisfaction is what makes me truly proud to be a part of JSB.

What would you say to somebody who is considering joining JSB?

Join! We are one of the most inclusive and accessible organizations you could be a part of!  I have grown in ways I wouldn't have believed possible in high school through the opportunities and connections that I've made at JSB.  I hope all who are considering will give us a try!
