[Introducing Dan Rasmussen, Founder and Portfolio Manager at Verdad Advisers,
a corporate sponsor of the Japan Society of Boston]
How long have you been in Boston?
I launched Verdad in 2014, and we've been in Boston since 2018.
What does your company do?
We are a hedge fund that invests across a variety of asset classes and strategies. We specialize in Japanese equities, and we own over $200M worth of Japanese stocks.
[Introducing Nick Schmitz, Verdad Partner and Japan Portfolio Manager]
What are the benefits and challenges of working with Japan?
Most people don't realize that Japan is the second largest equity market in the world, and has about the same number of listed stocks than the United States. And Japanese stocks are extremely cheap, especially relative to the United States. We love investing in Japan and learning about all the different industries and strategies, and we are particularly excited about new guidance to public companies trading under 1x book to develop plans to reach that valuation level.
What is your favorite thing about Boston?
I love how intellectual the city is, and how we have such an interesting mix of industries, from investing to higher education to biotech and medicine.
