Akio Kawato earned his MA from Harvard University. He served as a diplomat for 35 years in Germany, the Soviet Union/Russia, Sweden, and the United States (Consulate-General in Boston). Mr. Kawato is a former ambassador of Japan to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. He has been a senior researcher at the Research Institute of Capital Formation and the Development Bank of Japan. Mr. Kawato is chief research fellow at The Tokyo Foundation and visiting professor at Waseda University. Ambassador Kawato operates a blog, Japan-World Trends, at www.akiokawato.com/en/.
